Getting Started

Thank you for signing up to my service!

I’m really looking forward to building your website and helping you achieve your business goals.

Here are the main things I’ll need to get started:

  • Your host login information (cPanel username and password)
  • If you already have WordPress installed, I’ll need an admin login to your WordPress installation (you can create this under User> Add New)
  • Your company logo or the logo you want me to use on the site.
  • All images and content you want to use for the new site.
  • Style guide – any colours, gradients or typography information that you want to use on the website.

How can I send this?

Google Drive

I use google drive for all of my client work. It is easy, collaborative and free.

Before we start work on the website I will share a folder on google drive with you where you can send me all of the content that I need to get the website up and running.

If you don’t already have a Gmail account, sign up for one by clicking the link here, then tell me the email so I can send you the Drive link.

Step 1: Layout.

We’ll talk about how many pages will be on the site, and how you want those pages to look.

If you aren’t sure about the design, I can show you a set of layouts that will give you some ideas.

The final choice on this is yours, but I’ll try to give you advice based on my design experience.

Step 2: Content.

You’ll upload all of the content I need to get the page done to the Google Drive folder.

All Images should be renamed to the location that they will be placed, which I will outline for you in a document.

For example: “Homepage Banner.jpg” or “Frontpage Copy.doc”

Once you have sent me all of the content, I’ll begin work.

Step 3: Development

I’ll add all of your content to the website and get a first draft ready.

If there is any content missing, I will add placeholder images and content.

This process takes anything from 2 days to a week, but I always aim to have a final draft ready for you within one working week.

Step 4: Review

You’ll have a chance once the site is done to address issues, alter small details like fonts and colour, and iron out small details.

At this stage I’ll show you the final site, and you’ll send me back an email with every change you want to do.

By the time the project is finished if you still haven’t provided all of the content, it will be your responsibility to add that later.

Finishing and going live

Once the review process is done, your website will be ready to go live. I will create a backup of the website, and you should too. This can be done by going to Tools> Export. Be sure to keep this copy in case anything happens to your website, it will make it possible to restore in the event of being hacked or losing your data.

Important!

Keep a copy of all logins for your website and host. I will help if I can but I can’t be held responsible if you lose your login details for your host or your website.

I’ll also send you my content SEO Guide as well as an SEO Checklist so you can get started trying to rank your page on Google. This part is an incredibly complicated web of algorithms and networking, so I cannot guarantee that you’ll be able to rank on Google, but with these best practices you’ll at least be able to prepare your content for google indexing.
